Position Description
John G. Hirschy & Associates, Inc. is a diversified real estate firm and owns Texas Property Tax Consultants, Inc. The State of Texas does not have an income tax, so the primary source of revenue for local governments and schools is property taxes. The “property tax season” is April, May, June and July. The company currently represents the owners of over 7,100 properties. Of these, over 95% are residential properties. The Associate will screen the residential properties (accounts) to determine which are over-assessed by the County Appraisal Districts. Screening accounts requires the use of our excel based tools and the internet to find comparable properties and adjust them for difference from the account. Over-assessed accounts are protested. The Associate will be involved in signing up new accounts and invoicing accounts where property taxes have been lowered. This is a dynamic and satisfying position. The position is full-time during the months of April, May, June and July. Applicants with a real estate license are preferred, but being licensed is not required.
Qualifications
The applicant must be bright, have an aptitude for basic math, good spacial skills with maps, good social skills in working with others in the office and at the County Appraisal Districts, and an aggressive but tempered desire to be an advocate for the property owners we represent. The broader the applicant’s background in real estate, the better. Excellent computer software skills (solving problems and basic programming) is a plus.
Application Details
Applicants will be required to take a math and mapping test that will take about one to two hours to complete. This helps the firm screen candidates, but also gives you a much greater chance of selection, as only motivated candidates will complete the exam. A score of 80% or better is required to “pass” the test. The test can be found at the bottom of this page. Please type the narrative answers using a computer. Return the exam to Info@TexasPTC.com. You can also mail the exam to P.O. Box 2009, Coppell, TX 75019. Please include your resume with the exam. Thank you for your interest in the position. Those who pass the test will be given further consideration for employment.
Other Information
The company will have fourteen full-time employees during the property tax season. There is a strong sense of comradeship in the office. This is fun work that provides a feeling of satisfaction in lowering owners’ property taxes.
